Smartsizing Tips

Smartsizing is about having just the right amount of 'stuff' for where you are at in your life and for your perceived future needs.  Perhaps your children have grown and left home or you are tired of maintaining a large property or maybe you are re-evaluating your lifestyle.

Tip:  Reconsider your needs and eliminate the excess.
Do you really need 4 televisions?
Do rooms have furniture that you don't ever use?
Do some items of furniture just store 'stuff' that you no longer require?
Tip: Smartsizing to a smaller home
Draw a floorplan of your new rooms to see if your current furniture will fit, or whether you need to purchase new items.
Can you dual purpose rooms?  e.g. hobby/craft and office and guest room.
Tip:  Set up an area for selling and donating.
Put items in this area that are excess to your requirements.
Sell on eBay, Gumtree, etc or hold a garage sale.
Tip: Smaller units require clever storage.
With new apartments becoming smaller and smaller vertical storage is the way to go, e.g. utilise a vintage ladder for storing books.

Being organised leaves more room for spontaneity!
